This sounds like another made for publicity stunt like the Big Yellow Van ads on TV that claim they are the only carpet cleaner "Certified for Allergy" cleaning. I have tried more than a dozen times to have them tell me how to get certified and they send only info about the one company they are probably set up with. Fake!!!

The Rug Doctor organization is smart. Their published instructions probably say to run multiple passes with the machine over the carpet. With decent chemicals, the agitation of the vibrating brush of the Rug Doctor System & multiple passes, the results are good (good enough to get a Platinum rating). We shouldn't get upset because a DYI process produces a decent result. We should let our customers know that it would be fine to do interim cleaning with such methods if they would like, but have their carpets professionally cleaned at least once per year or 18 months. I think sometimes that we find ourselves having to 'down' or criticize anything other than truckmounted hot water extraction. When in certain circumstances there are other methods (non hot water extraction) that even out perform HWE. Our enemy is not DYI systems, or Yellow Trucks, but rather complacency of people who do not have their carpet cleaned regularly by any method or system and the fear of having unknown men in the homes of our potential customers. This is what we should be concentrating and focusing our energy on. Find a way to overcome this and you will have more work than you can 'say grace over'!

I tell my customers go ahead and use the "Rug Doctor" and when your carpet is still wet after 24hr call me and we will dry it out. When the spots come back quickly or the carpet still smells call us we can fix that. " By the way did you know that a Rug Doctor only has a 1.75 horse power blower/vac, Your lawn mower is twice as powerful?" That usually stops them in their tracks.

Professional carpet cleaners use biocide to clean gray water contamination. Hot water extraction is another way to help restore valuable carpets and rugs. But if the contamination hasn’t been handled fast enough, it might be better to replace your carpets.
